gabions The paper gabion

The paper gabions

Gabions are rectangular wire mesh baskets filled with rock at the project site to form flexible, permeable, monolithic structures such as retaining walls for commercial, industrial and road projects. They are also used for erosion control, bank stabilization, channel linings, and weirs.

gabions strength comes from a double twisted hexagonal mesh of steel wire which is reinforced by selvedges of heavier wire running along the edges and by transverse diaphragms. The double twisted wire will not unravel, even when cut.

Our gabions very easy to assemble, require no specialized labor and nearby rock can be used for fill.  gabions are available with different levels of protective coating for durability. With 30% voids gabion structures offer free drainage providing a higher bank stability when used for river bank protection.

What Is Zinc Coated Wire?

What Is Zinc Coated Wire?
Metal wires are used to bear mechanical loads and carry electricity and signals, among other uses. They are produced by drawing a metal through an opening known as a draw plate. Wire gauge is the general term used to define different sizes of standard wire thicknesses. Coating the wires with zinc is a popular practice to avoid rusting, which causes wires to become brittle.

What Is A Gabion?

Gabions (from Italian gabbione meaning “big cage”; from Italian gabbia and Latin cavea meaning “cage”) are cages, cylinders, or boxes filled with soil or sand that are used in civil engineering, road building, and military application. For erosion control caged riprap is used. For dams or foundation construction, cylindrical metal structures are used. In a military context, earth or sand-filled Gabions are used to protect artillery crews.

Civil engineering: The most common civil engineering use is to stabilize shore against erosion. Other uses include retaining walls, temporary floodwalls, to filter silt from runoff, for small or temporary/permanent dams, river training, channel lining. They may be used to direct the force of a flow of flood water around a vulnerable structure. Gabions are also used as fish barriers on small streams.

Gabion baskets have some advantages over loose riprap because of their modularity and ability to be stacked in various shapes. They also have advantages over more rigid structures because they can conform to ground movement, dissipate energy from flowing water and drain freely. Their strength and effectiveness may increase with time in some cases, as silt and vegetation fill the interstitial voids and reinforce the structure. They are sometimes used to keep stones which may fall from a cutting or cliff from endangering traffic on a thoroughfare.

Gabions have also been used in building, as in the Dominus Winery in Napa Valley, California. The exterior is formed by modular wire mesh Gabions containing locally quarried stone; this construction creates an environment of moderate temperatures within the building.

Military use: In the medieval era, Gabions were round cages with open tops and bottoms, made from wickerwork and filled with earth for use as military fortifications. These early military Gabions were used to protect field artillery gunners. The wickerwork cylinders were light and could be carried relatively conveniently in the ammunition train, particularly if they were made in several diameters to fit one in another. At the site of use in the field, they could be stood on end, staked in position, and filled with soil to form an effective wall around the gun. Today, Gabions are often used to protect forward operating bases.

What are Star Pickets?

A student was seriously injured on school grounds when their leg was lacerated due to contact with a star picket located in a garden area.
What are Star Pickets?
Star pickets are multipurpose metal stakes often used as upright posts to support barricading material for cordoned off areas. They can also be used as stakes to support growing trees and vines.
Dangers of Star Pickets “Driving in” star pickets into the ground often burs and deforms the top edges of the stake making them sharp and increasing the risk of injury if a person comes in
contact with an exposed picket. In recognition of known injuries such as impaling, the safety industry has developed devices to cap the ends of star pickets.
Control Procedures for Schools
· Audit the whole school site and remove any unnecessary star pickets
· Avoid the use of star pickets in the school environment
· Where star pickets are used as a temporary measure, ensure they are
appropriately capped at all times.
Hidden Dangers
The school indicated above had previously conducted an audit and removed a number of star pickets. During unsupervised play, however, a student climbed over a ground floor port rack and jumped down into an adjoining garden bed. The student’s leg was seriously lacerated due to being impaled on a star picket, which was not fitted with a safety cap. Its location was not detected in their audit. School audits for star pickets should therefore include normally “out of bounds” areas such as gardens and other areas that students would not usually occupy.
More Information Caps for star pickets are inexpensive and can be purchased from major hardware stores and safety equipment suppliers.

The riot police stood guard Egypt standing in behind barbed wire

The riot police stood guard Egypt standing in behind barbed wire ,Egypt’s military rulers slammed as “baseless slander” recent criticisms from the popular Muslim Brotherhood, saying Sunday that it was wrong to question its intentions regarding the “integrity” of upcoming elections.

The statement was a rare and charged public response from the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which claimed that in the past it refused “to comment on these lies, out of its belief that the great Egyptian military’s status is above verbal jousting with a faction or group.”

The military leaders said they will “spare no effort to pass through this tough stage.”

The punch tape concertina coils are the upgraded form of short blade profile wires.
Although these are cost effective like short blade profile wires. In various industrial and commercial applications like military organizations, correctional institutions, hydro and nuclear power stations, mining and processing enterprises, industrial enterprises. In these wires, we provide much sharper blades.

Punched Tape Concertina Coil is an accordion type spiral, grassland fence, fabricated by

coiling reinforced barbed tape and clipping adjacent spiral turns suitable to form

a Concertina.

It is Provided with two handles at each end for ease in handling, laying

and retrieving. Each spiral turns of PTCC has over 550 sharp barbs along its lenghts

and hence it is very difficult to cross over.
